Video vixens, video models, or eye candy… call them what you deem fit. These ladies have continued to demand your attention in your favorite music videos – and they always get it. From “Freek-A-Leek” to “Rump Shaker”, Hip-Hop has always had some of the hottest women on the planet starring in music videos.
Over time, however, these vixens have changed their styles and appearances to blend with the music of the day. What once started with ladies in skirts and skin-tight dresses has now moved on to featuring super-hot models in jaw-dropping outfits that are barely on their bodies. As hip-hop has become more acceptable with most cultures, video vixens have continued to rise in popularity. In fact, many video models claim that this art has given them a sense of empowerment and confidence, with most moving into other fields like writing, acting, or even managing their own brands.
A song may come to your mind and make you feel really crazy, but what really drives you is the beauty behind the music. Yes, you may not know her name, but her image is right there in your mind. And of course some reminiscence will do; here are 5 popular, “OG” video vixens of our time. Enjoy!
Rosa Acosta, one of the video vixens to have generated lots of buzz in recent times, is from Dominican Republic. She is the hip-hop candy that featured in Trey Song’s “Na-Na” video, and is best known for her flexibility in the industry. With notable appearances in Drake’s video “Best I Ever Had” and Far East Movement’s song “If I Was You (OMG)!” ft. Snoop Dog, Rosa Acosta has shown that it takes fitness and lots of hard work to achieve a body like hers. Her appeal is her fitness and flexibility – and these are qualities any rapper would want in his music video.
Buffie The Body (Buffie Carruth)
Buffie The Body, one of the most represented names in the video vixen industry, is from Athens Georgia. Known for her hot body, Buffie The Body was not always this popular. She had hired a photographer to take swimsuit shots which were initially prepared as a surprise package for her boyfriend. However, the photographer, without her knowledge, posted the photos online, although he eventually sent her links to the websites. This singular act by the photographer boosted Buffie’s chances in the entertainment industry, as she first appeared in Tony Yayo’s “So Seductive” music video ft. 50 Cent.
Buffie’s appearance in Tony Yayo’s video led to other offers from several magazines and more video vixen contacts. In addition to her gigs in videos like Juelz Santana’s “Oh Yes”, Buffie The Body featured in over 60 magazines within a year. She now manages a brand of her own, including her website Buffiethebody.com.
While Buffie boasts of having the best a** in the game, Esther Baxter is well known for her HUGE front sides. She has featured in a number of music videos including those of Nelly, Kanye West, Will Smith, and Ludacris. However, her name only stuck to the minds of many music lovers after she featured in Petey Pablo’s “Freek-A-Leek” video. But as quickly as she made a big entry into the industry, Esther Baxter quit her video vixen career in 2007 to allow her further her education.
Teyana Taylor first featured as a choreographer in Beyoncé’s hit single, “Ring The Alarm”. She also made an appearance in Jay Z’s music video, “Blue Magic”, but Taylor really hit peak heights when she featured in Kanye West’s “Fade”. As one would expect, Taylor is one of the hottest video models in the industry – and not your average eye candy. She is also an artist with two albums – VII and The Cassette Tape 1994 – in her name recorded on Kanye’s label, GOOD.
You can hardly talk about video vixens without mentioning Vida Guerra. The Cuban model’s appearances in Nelly, Kanye West, and Diddy’s music videos had people turning their heads to take notice in 2004. However, controversy soon trailed Vida and her career as her naked pictures were leaked on the internet. This pictures, which many argue was leaked by Vida herself for a publicity stunt, inspired her to perform a formal nude shoot with Playboy Magazine. Now 36, she still remains an elite video model even though she may be done with her days in music videos.
